The Pearl of Ukrainian Podillia: Vinnytsia

There is an outstanding city among beautiful ones in Ukraine. This one was founded more than 650 years ago and nowadays is one of the most attractive Ukrainian cities. This clean and comfortable, green and scenic place is called “the pearl of Podillia”. Welcome to city of Vinnytsia, one of the pleasant tourist centers in Ukraine.

A few years ago Vinnytsia was an ordinary Ukrainian city. But within the recent years thanks to the active social control there were made some significant changes. That’s why this place became one of the most beautiful and the most comfortable cities in Ukraine.

This ancient city has everything that the ground may give to people. It stood against the hordes of nomads, armies of principalities, kingdoms and empires. In spite of attacks of the enemies many different interesting sights were saved here so that today Vinnytsia is a popular cultural center in the midland of Ukraine.

Vinnytsia is known by its exceptional architecture. Hundreds of years ago there was a defensive complex in the center of the city. It included a few churches and feudal castle which was transformed to a monastery later. Nowadays this complex is known as “Mury” (walls).

In XIX century many remarkable objects here were built by famous local architect Grygoriy Artynov. One of such objects is the symbol of Vinnytsia, Water Tower which is preserved as a museum in the center of the city.

The students of local universities keep the heritage of the architects of Vinnytsia and the unique spirit of the city. A few years ago they placed in the downtown area many different monuments created in the original style which is close to the style of ancient elements of streets and buildings of Vinnytsia.

Another interesting places of Vinnytsia are the manor of Polish magnates Grokholsky family and the manor of famous Russian and Ukrainian surgeon of XIX century, Nickolai Pirogov. There is a museum of this outstanding scientist in his manor.

This green city is surrounded by parks and forests which had impressed even the invaders. During the World War II there was made the General Headquarters of Hitler in the environs of Vinnytsia. Nowadays this is a museum which is dedicated to this war and its victims in Ukraine.

The public transport here also is worth of your attention. Vinnytsia was the first Ukrainian city where the trams had run for the first time. Local trams are very popular here. Visit the museum of trams in Vinnytsia and admire the old-fashioned urban transport.
