Nikolaev is not too big, but very nice town, which is located near the Black Sea. This town was named in honor of St. Nicholas whose monument stands in the center of the town. This charming southern town gladly welcomes you in its warm embrace, it will surround by care and attention. Why is Nikolaev ? There are many advantages here, for example the proximity to the sea, the mild climate, well-developed resort infrastructure and so on. There is everything for relaxing, making healthy and taking new experiences.
Of course, the first place where you have to go, it will be the main street of the town – Sovetskaya Street. This street is pedestrian, here you can meet just horses or mini cars for children. There are a lot of cafes and shops here also. In the end of the main street you can see riverfront with long downstairs. It is great place for walking with lady, looking on the sunset. Also if you wish you can go yachting with romantic supper and good music.
The second well-known place in Nikolaev is zoo. It is one of the best and most famous zoos in Ukraine.The history of the zoo began in 1901, when the mayor N. Leontovich created his private collection «Aquarium-Museum». Nikolaev Zoo became the first zoo in Ukraine, which was admitted to the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums in 1993, and in 2003 – to the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Today the collection of the zoo has almost 5690 animals of 460 species, most of which are listed in the Red Book. Also Nikolaev zoo quite often takes part in international programs for the conservation of rare species of animals in captivity.
Another great place is Yacht Club. It is great place for walking near the river and sitting in restaurants. It looks like riverfront with yachts. It is one of the oldest in the Russian Empire, it was founded in 1887. The first members of the Yacht Club of Nikolaev became 66 people. The commanders of Yacht Club were such famous people as: Adjutant Chief Commander of the Black Sea fleet and ports E.N.Golikov, a commander S.P.Tyrtov, a historian and a composer N.N.Arkas.
On the roads of the yacht club was not a single boat. In 1949 in Nikolaev was held Championship of the Soviet Union in boating. Nowadays, all Ukrainian sailors arrive in Nikolaev to participate in the annual environmental regatta which was named in honor of Sergei Shapovalov.
There are 4 big parks in Nikolaev. One of them is European park. It is new park with the fountains and comfortable branches. It is in the center of Nikolaev, where a lot of hotels are located.
For foreign people Nikolaev has also water park “Vodoley”. It is famous place of people , especially in summer. It is located in the southern part of the city. The first visitors took the pool complex in 1997. The complex was designed for water sports and leisure activities. The waterpark “Vodoley” is a wonderful rest, unforgettable emotions, a variety of services and entertainment for the whole family. It is ranked seventh in the world in the category of facilities for recreation and sports, and it confirms a diploma of the International Olympic Committee “Special Merit”.
If you want to return to your childhood, you can meet your woman to children’s park “Skazka”. It is a gaming and entertainment complex, which is located in the center of Nikolaev near the main street. The total area of the park is 3.5 hectares. Here you can find all sorts of children’s events and competitions, in addition it is a museum of all kinds of decorative and fine arts. Walking with a juice and cotton candy you will be back to childhood. It is interesting to visit the main Roman Catholic church in Nikolaev region. It is the Church of St. Joseph which was built in 1896 by the famous Odessa architect V. Dombrowski. Construction of the church was carried out at the expense of the parishioners, Catholics.The building harmoniously combines Art Nouveau forms and details of Gothic architecture. The windows of the church were decorated with colored stained-glass windows, and a throne was made of white marble. This place is very special and has its own atmosphere.
